My
Story

I am an author, historian, and storyteller whose work brings forgotten lives back into view. Writing across genres and age groups—from children’s picture books to young adult fiction to deeply researched historical nonfiction—I explore memory, identity, belonging, and the people history nearly erased.

I am the creator of the Hidden Histories collections, a growing body of work that uncovers the caretakers, healers, builders, spiritual guardians, women, and everyday individuals who carried the weight of wars, cultures, and communities. Blending anthropology, military history, archaeology, and narrative, my books ask a simple but urgent question: Who did the work of remembering?

For younger readers, I write stories filled with courage, wonder, and emotional truth. My picture books and early chapter readers invite children to see beauty in difference, strength in kindness, and power in their own voices. My YA and Rewoven Fairytale titles carry those same themes forward, guiding readers through history, myth, and self-discovery.

My writing is shaped by academic study, museum work, and community engagement, but it is driven most by compassion—for those who served, those who waited, and those whose names slipped from the record.

Whether writing for adults or children, I believe stories are acts of restoration.

They return dignity.
They rebuild memory.
They bring us back to one another.

I grew up on the central coast of California in Santa Maria. Raised on donuts from my family's baker in Orcutt and fresh strawberries from the fields. I spent every weekend at either Pismo Beach, Avila Beach, or my favorite, Montaña de Oro, with my family.

When I am not writing, I am usually reading, walking my dogs, and enjoying the Utah landscape with my spouse. I collect vintage typewriters, love cinnamon cake donuts, and have over thirty rescue orchids that I tend. I am dyslexic and have SO much fun with it as a writer; I love to roller skate and believe in animal familiars (I have a few, my favorite being the pelican).

P.S. It's not a big deal, but if you need to know, I have an associate's degree in liberal arts. Dual bachelor's degrees in anthropology (with a concentration in environmental sustainability) and history (with a concentration in military). I am currently obtaining my master's degree in archaeology and heritage remotely through the University of Leicester in England.

In my spare time, I volunteer with the American Red Cross as an International Humanitarian Law instructor, Youth Engagement Lead, Restoring Family Links advisor, and Blood Donation Driver; with the Girl Scouts of America organization as a troop leader of my granddaughters' troops; with the Women of the World Refugee organization as a mentor; and with the Natural History Museum of Utah as an ecology and cultural anthropologist gallery interpreter for the Native Voices floor.

But above all of this, my family means more to me than anything. I have a loving spouse, four kids, four grandkids, and four dogs (and a few battling squirrels in the backyard) that are my universe. That is why I write.
